Course Rating & Reviews

The reviews are in and the response is clear – people love our Sensitive Nutrition Assessment!

“The speaker was fantastic about actually providing examples of how many of the points are put in practice. I often find in presentations, presenters will say something like “ask more open questions” or discuss hunger management” but the speaker was amazing at actually describing what that looks like in practice. I got a ton out of this presentation.”

“Anna provided a wealth of information and expertise in an entertaining, and easy to understand fashion. The hour flew, and once I caught my breath, I realized how much I gained in knowledge. Thank you.” -Arleen Shuster, MA, RDN

“Anna explained in a very comprehensive way her practice and allowed me to learn how to protect a child’s relationship with food while doing my job of supporting metabolic health. The overall ways to go on with a family‑centered care was really interesting. Thank you!” -Aurelie Viger, DPT

If you have ever thought:

“I want to approach this conversation carefully.”

“Parents are asking about weight. How should I respond?”

“How do I support health without unintentionally causing harm?”

“How do I balance caregiver concerns with best practice?”

You are not alone.

Nutrition assessment in pediatric obesity requires thoughtful clinical judgment.

Children are growing. Feeding relationships are developing. Family dynamics influence eating behaviours. Dietitians are highly trained professionals who want to provide thoughtful, evidence-informed care while protecting the well-being of the children and families they serve.

This session is designed to support that goal by strengthening confidence in sensitive, behaviour-focused pediatric nutrition assessment.

Pediatric Obesity Nutrition Assessment

Pediatric obesity is recognized as a complex chronic disease influenced by genetic, biological, and environmental factors.  As our leading expert Anna Aylett, RD says “we can’t fix it”. Nutrition care in this context often requires a different approach than traditional weight-focused counselling.

Dietitians play an important role in helping families focus on:

• nourishing eating behaviours
• supportive feeding environments
• sustainable health habits

while maintaining a respectful and trusting relationship with both children and caregivers.

This webinar will walk through practical strategies for conducting a sensitive nutrition assessment in pediatric obesity care.

Why This Topic Matters in Clinical Practice

Weight-related conversations with children and families can be nuanced.

Caregivers often arrive with questions or concerns shaped by a wide range of messages about nutrition and weight.

Dietitians are uniquely positioned to guide these conversations in a way that supports health behaviours while maintaining trust and minimizing stigma.

This webinar provides a practical framework for approaching pediatric obesity assessment with sensitivity and professional confidence.

Speaker(s)

Anna Aylett, RD

Anna Aylett is a registered dietitian with the Centre for Healthy Active Living at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario.

She has worked with children and youth with complex obesity since the program’s inception in 2010, supporting families as part of a multidisciplinary clinical team.

Anna is widely respected for her ability to translate obesity science into practical nutrition care that supports health behaviours while protecting a child’s relationship with food.

She is also a thoughtful educator who helps clinicians approach pediatric obesity assessment with clarity, compassion, and confidence.

A Note on Language

This session is grounded in:

• non-stigmatizing communication
• family-centered nutrition care
• an anti-diet approach to pediatric obesity

Although the term “obesity” is used here among health professionals, it is not language typically used with patients or families.

The focus of this session is supporting nourishment, growth, and long-term health behaviours in children and youth.

Testimonials

I really enjoyed the speaker’s style: warm, humorous, non-judgmental, realistic, science-based, family-centered. I loved that she gave phrases that I can actually use in practice, situation, and analogies/explanations. She was really engaging and captivating. The webinar went by so fast.

Sensitive Nutrition Assessment

It was obvious that Anna was extremely passionate about the material she presented and it kept me engaged the whole time. I loved that she wasn’t just reading from slides, and incorporated several real case study examples to support the information being given. So much was shared in a very short period of time and I look forward to using this new knowledge in my practice to better support my pediatric clients in WIC. I hope there will be an encore to this webinar with Anna again soon! -Danielle, RDN
